Product Description

Conveyor Flank Contact Inverted Tooth Stainless Steel Silent Chain

Side-contact reverse tooth stainless steel silent chain
Made of hardened carbon steel or corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel, the power chain and sprocket are designed to provide smooth and quiet operation for low-horsepower applications. The chain has 10 standard widths, and special widths and connecting chains can be provided as required. All Ramsey 3/16 ″ pitch chains are equipped with round pin joints to allow reverse bending of the chain and are fully compatible with sprockets manufactured in accordance with ASME B29.2M-2007. Ramsey 3/16 ″ pitch chain and sprocket are very suitable for original or replacement applications.
Typical applications include food processing equipment, packaging machinery, weighing machinery, replacement parts of weighing scales, postage meters, sorting machinery, and Mettler Toledo high-speed TM replacement chains and sprockets.
Note: The power capacity of stainless steel chain is less than that of a carbon steel chain of the same width.
Advantages of stainless steel silent chain
Stainless steel silent chain provides many advantages for glass conveying and general industrial conveying.
Higher temperature capability
The conveyor is allowed to operate at a temperature significantly higher than the average temperature that the carbon steel chain can withstand.
Improve thermal property
Reduce the heat transfer rate of the chain and possibly reduce the bottle inspection.
Excellent corrosion resistance
Provide resistance to chemicals and atmospheres that are not suitable for carbon steel chains.

What are the environmental considerations when using a silent chain?

When using a silent chain in various applications, there are several environmental considerations to take into account:

1. Temperature:

– Silent chains are designed to operate within specific temperature ranges. It’s important to ensure that the operating temperature of the environment remains within the chain’s specified limits.

– High temperatures can affect the lubrication properties and the integrity of the chain material, leading to accelerated wear and reduced performance.

2. Moisture and Humidity:

– Moisture and humidity can cause corrosion and rusting of the silent chain, impacting its performance and longevity.

– In wet or humid environments, it’s crucial to select a chain that is resistant to corrosion or consider additional protective measures such as coatings or regular maintenance.

3. Contaminants:

– The presence of contaminants such as dust, dirt, chemicals, or abrasive particles in the working environment can affect the silent chain’s performance.

– These contaminants can accelerate wear, increase friction, and lead to premature chain failure.

– Regular cleaning and maintenance practices should be implemented to remove any accumulated contaminants and keep the chain operating optimally.

4. Chemical Exposure:

– Depending on the application, silent chains may come into contact with various chemicals or substances that can degrade the chain material or lubrication.

– It is important to select a chain that is resistant to the specific chemicals present in the environment or take appropriate measures to protect the chain from chemical exposure.

5. Noise and Vibration:

– Silent chains are designed to operate quietly, minimizing noise and vibration.

– However, in certain environments, noise and vibration can still be a concern. It’s important to assess and mitigate any excessive noise or vibration levels to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment.

6. Regulatory Compliance:

– Depending on the industry and application, there may be specific environmental regulations and standards that need to be adhered to.

– Ensure that the selected silent chain and its associated components comply with the relevant environmental regulations and standards.

By considering these environmental factors and selecting a silent chain that is appropriate for the specific operating conditions, you can enhance the performance, reliability, and lifespan of the chain while minimizing the impact on the environment.

How do you properly tension a silent chain?

Tensioning a silent chain correctly is essential for its optimal performance and longevity. Here are the steps to properly tension a silent chain:

1. Determine the Tensioning Method: Silent chains can be tensioned using either an adjustable tensioner or a fixed-position tensioner. The appropriate method depends on the specific chain design and the manufacturer’s recommendations.

2. Set the Initial Tension: The initial tension should be set according to the manufacturer’s guidelines or specifications. This typically involves applying a specific force or deflection to the chain to achieve the desired initial tension.

3. Allow for Break-In: After installing the chain and setting the initial tension, it is important to allow the chain to run for a break-in period. During this time, the chain will settle and stretch slightly, so it’s crucial to recheck and readjust the tension after the break-in period.

4. Monitor and Adjust Tension: Regularly monitor the tension of the silent chain during operation. Over time, chains may experience wear or elongation, which can affect tension. Use appropriate tension measurement tools, such as tension gauges or deflection measurement methods, to check the tension periodically. If the tension deviates from the recommended range, adjust it accordingly.

5. Follow Manufacturer’s Recommendations: Always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations for tensioning the specific type of silent chain you are using. Each chain design may have unique requirements, so it’s crucial to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for optimal performance and chain life.

Proper tensioning ensures that the silent chain operates smoothly, minimizes wear, and prevents issues such as excessive noise, vibration, or premature failure. By following the manufacturer’s guidelines and regularly checking and adjusting the tension, you can maintain the chain’s performance and maximize its service life.

What industries commonly use silent chains?

Silent chains, also known as inverted tooth chains or silent synchronous chains, are utilized in various industries where reliable power transmission and precise motion control are required. Some of the industries that commonly use silent chains include:

1. Automotive: Silent chains are widely employed in automotive applications, such as engines and timing systems, where accurate timing, low noise, and high durability are critical.

2. Industrial Machinery: Many types of industrial machinery, including printing presses, packaging machines, and textile machinery, rely on silent chains for their power transmission needs due to their ability to handle high loads and provide precise motion control.

3. Robotics: Silent chains play a significant role in robotics, where precise movement and synchronization are essential. They are used in robotic arms, pick-and-place systems, and other robotic applications.

4. Aerospace: In the aerospace industry, silent chains are utilized in various applications, such as aircraft engines, auxiliary power units, and flight control systems, where reliable power transmission and minimal noise are crucial.

5. Food and Beverage: Silent chains find applications in the food and beverage industry, particularly in processing and packaging equipment. Their low noise operation and ability to withstand washdown conditions make them suitable for these environments.

6. Medical: Silent chains are used in medical equipment and devices that require precise motion control, such as imaging systems, laboratory automation, and surgical robots.

7. Material Handling: Silent chains are employed in material handling equipment, including conveyors, lifts, and automated storage systems, to ensure reliable power transmission and accurate positioning.

These are just a few examples, and silent chains may be found in various other industries where their unique characteristics and performance advantages are beneficial for specific applications.
